Photojournalism Ethics

A photojournalists should be situational because it all depends on the situation your in to alter the photo.Its at your discretion.

Yes and No because it all depends on how a preson interprets the picture. I may think the picture means one thing while another person might think differently,But i guess if it really obvious what the picture is trying to say then yes.

I Have cropped people out of the picture. i guess in a way that alters the truth because its almost like saying the poeple i cropped out were not even there at all.

Its important that news organizations have clearly defined ethical standards because that way photographers know what they are allowed to do to alter a photo and what they are not permitted to do.

Fashion Ethics

Its not okay to change a persons face like that in the photo because thats not what she really looks like, and your making people feel like they need to like that. If your going to have model you need to take them as they are.

Its worse than others because this is the reason people go and get plastic surgery done.Its because they feel a need to be like this and look a certain way...when in reality no one really looks like they are being tricked into going and getting all this work done so they can look better.but they are just wasting there money and in the end they probably wont like it.This is probably one of the reason that girls and boys have self esteem issues.And thats part of the reason they dont eat,this is part of the reason we have people who dont eat and purge right after if they do eat.

The types of changes that are okay are like if she were to have a scar on her face and they covered it up something like that. Something that wont embarass the person in the photo.nut if you alter her whole entire face,that woud make them feel asz if they were not pretty enough to be there as they are. And it would make people want to look like that.because lets face it we all want to look like a movie star.we want to have the hair the perfect body,eyes,lips,chin, etc..


In photojouranlism we show the truth if we alter a photo we either crop it or take out soome blemishes,or remove some scrathches.We dont take away fro the truth of the photo. In fashion Photography they alter the photo to mahe her eyes look bigger,make her neck longer all thihs stuff to make it up to the standards of what they think is beautiful.Instead of showing her natural beauty.The ethics between the two is that photoJ is the truth and what we do ost of the time is right, but in the fashio world when they alter the photo its wrong because they have an impact on all these people that will see the photos that they print.

Photo Manipulation 2

This Picture i think is unethical because they changed alot about it, in the origional it looks as if the soilderis trying to tell the man with the child to stay back away from whats behind them.Now he look as if he is holding them hostage. The soilder also looks as if he is ready to use his gun on the people. but thats not true at all.

I think this photo is the least unethical because,they only took out the merger. You still get the full affect of the photo.She is in pain over her friend being shot.by altering the photo they did not take away from the action.

This picture to me is the most unethical because,they made it seem like someting she was not. and it makes people think that thay have

to be skinny.this was moslt likley planned out.

Photo Manipulation

1.The Universtiy of Wisconsin-Madison though they needed to make the school appear more diverse.So on the brochure they digitally inserted an African American into the photo. By doing that it cause alot of contraversy with the board of the school.Some people think it was wrong others say to leave the photo as they changed it.
2.I think what they did to the photo is not okay,because all they wanted to do is make the people looking at the school brochure think that its a diverse school.I think they could have gone a different way to show there diversity.

Funny captions!

After hours of having a great and tiring day lacy(left) Tina (right) decided to take a little nap in there sleeping bags. The two cats tormented other birds all day.

Dana, the baby pictured, is very upset because she has a dirty pamper and no one will change her.she went the whole day with a dirt diaper,then finally her mom bought more so that she could be changed.

People enjoy the very delelicious taste of mini dogs! they are made with real dog. earlier that day this place was overly crowded. So crowded that it became a fire hazzard.

Repitition: the lines of the tables repeat and the wheels of cheese are also repetitive.you eyes just follow the lines.

Reptition: The seats and the faces on the seats are very repetitive. it catches your eyes and they lead like you all the way down the plan seats from the back to the front of the plane.

1. Mealnie Burford got really upclose and personal into these peoples lives.And she photoed very crucial time.She used alot of time to make each photo its best it could be. She gave the people of sugar hill her trust. She used alot of effets in the the slideshow.

2.The effects help people pay attention more to the story that is being told through the pictures.Like the song it really brings out the emotions in the photos,by making you feel like your in there place.it really allows your imagination to take you there. And make you feel the way these people do who are in the photos.

3.The map was the most interesting because you get to read about where everything happened.And you get to see there living conditions.I think that was the main purpose that Melanie burford tried to get across to people who watched this slideshow or looked at this map on the site.

the effect of shooting at this shutter speed is that you get alot of action and there facial expressions.And the athleter in mid air beforehe hit the base.

it made the guy in the backround blury and out of focus aklong with everything elses in the back.

9/11 post

"AVOIDING MERGES" This is avoiding merges because the backround is very simple and there is nothing taking away from the man's face. so you can concentrate on his exspression.you get a sense of how he feels and what he is going through.

"BALANCE" this is balanced because on one side you have the buliding destroyed by the attack and on the other you have the fire fighters holding up the flag. so it balances out. becuase there is two different things happening on eache side of the picture.

"Simplicity" this picture is simplicity because in the picture the woman is the only main thing in focus. And because there is nothing in the backround distracting the viewers from her in this picture.

"Lines" this picture would be line because the lines of the flag go straight up to the fire fighters who un rolled the flag.

" RULE OF THIRDS" This photo is the rule of thirds because the potographer broke the freme into thirds and in the iddle section of the thirds all the action is happening... like where the plane hit. and going vertically the action is in the top third just like going horizontally the action is in the middle third.

" FRAMING"
This is framing because thre boxes are enclosiing him in and surrounded by them also teh picture is totally filled.

what did before i enlarged my photo...

i first cleaned my negatives with photoflow. The i whiped it with a really soft colth to get all the water spots off them.


Then i chose my negative that i wanted to enlarge... and i loaded it into the inlarger i focused the image to where i could see the crystals that make up the picture. then i got a i got one third of a piece of photo paper. Then i exsposed it all to three seconds of light. And i exposed one third of it to one more second then before so it became 4 seconds.then on the middle third i exsposed it to two more seconds of light and became exsposed at 5,then i did the same to the third part of the torn paper and that became 6 seconds. Then i came out into the light to see which exsposure was the best. And it was 6 seconds that made the photo come out very clear.

then when i did that i made my final print with a normal size piece of photo paper and i exsposed it to the light for 6 seconds and the photo came out great.

my first negatives!

1.Over all my negatives came out fairly good...except for the fact that i had a few water spots and that in one of the pictures there might be someone elses fingerprint,from whent they were trying to find thier own work.Also in picture number 23 there is two heads i didnt like that shot too much...but thats about it. And in 24 there are like peoples backs in there,and i didnt like that either but at least i got a girl smiling.

2.My best two exsposures are 17 and 22....i like them because they are both very clear and they caught the candid moment. And they both sort of fill the frame...well i think they do.In number 22 i caught Aaron,like laughing so i liked i got him in that moment. And in 17 the girl you can kind of tell she is in pain but she is having a good time about it.

" FILLING THE FRAME"

this oicture fills the frame because int he entire picture there is something going on...the girl is smiling and then there is the big ball thing fizzing up and thats all you can see because it fillint the frame... There is nothing behind her or anthing going on just he and the beaker of water with the white floating ball.

"ACTION AND EMOTION"

This picture-> shows action because you can see him make the flame big and the the kid in the picture he is just like wow! He is really like almost shocked by the size of the flame.

"THE STORY"

This picture tells a stiry because it saying there car broke down and now they are all trying to fix the car...so they dont have to be stranded.

The Camera

The difference between the camera's is that a pinhole you get at the distance its already at and with SLR camera you can zoom in and out.



The two camera's are the same Because they bothe can take a picutre and they use light.

THE BAD 1.Yes there is a person..and they are just stading! there isnt really any blur or anything

2.I guess the photo is sharp. Nothing is really out of focus

3. I think my picture is warped...but i only thnk thats cause its very dark like around the edges like if they made it that way....like with phoyshop or if the photo is actually like that all by itself

THE GOOD

1. There is no person in the picture or an action

2.I think the picture is sharp in the very center. And the things that are soft are the is where the photo get darker around the edges.

3.Yes because has been darkened around the edges

My photo Critique

This photo is not using the basic rules of composition i think because there is a lot of dead space and they are not really filling the frame.Also there isn't really any emotion in the photo that i can tell cause its kind of far away.

The basic use of Composition rules are used because the photo is candid. and it almost fills the frame, so there isn't that much dead space.also it has a lot of emotion. Like the way the speaker is using his hands while he talks shows that he is really into his speech. And the photographer caught that moment in time.
